Our Story
A fated story - two mid-20-year-olds trying to find themselves and finding each other along the way. A first date at the Willow Room, Zach’s introduction to Bad Bunny (on repeat on a long road trip through the South), a whirlwind year in Miami long-distance during Covid, a return to Chicago for Umangi’s residency. Since then, our love story has traversed the globe, from Guatemala to Sicily to New Zealand. After many moons of residency, music shows, and countless restaurants, Zach popped the question in Istanbul, Turkey on a boat in the Bosphorus strait. Where the East and West (metaphorically and literally) meet, he proposed with a ring rooted in love, lore, and family.
We’re so excited to have our loved ones with us on this special weekend! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making the effort to celebrate us and our families.
Why Oaxaca
On a serendipitous trip to Oaxaca, Zach and his now best man Karthik discovered the wealth of culinary yumminess, rich artisanal culture, and the overall sense of place in this historical city. When deciding the wedding location, Umangi came around to the idea and wholly trusted Zach in choosing this city as our wedding destination (and she’s thrilled she did!).
For us, Oaxaca is a place where our values integrate, with appreciation of culture, cuisine, and community in a beautifully sunny location with the backdrop of the Sierra Madre Mountains. (also moles, mezcal, tlayudas, and tostadas galore)
Oaxaca is known for its indigenous culture, 16th century colonial architecture, rich art scene, and as the culinary soul of Mexican gastronomy. We hope you enjoy this city as much as we do!
What to Expect
We are excited to bring our family, friends, and loved ones to join us for the merging of two families, Indian wedding style, in beautiful Oaxaca! In keeping with Hindu wedding traditions, our wedding will have four events: Haldi/Pithi, Sangeet, the Wedding Ceremony, and the Reception. Bring your Indian lehengas, bright colorful clothes, and open hearts for a weekend full of joy, tradition, and cultural experiences.
